Who doesn’t love an origin story?! Introducing The Safety Social!

Read it in a northern (Wigan) accent. Here goes…

I founded The Safety Social in December 2023, less than 12 months ago and in that time, as a community, we have raised almost £500 for North West charitable causes. Every single penny goes back into the North West community.

The Safety Social covers the North West, England from Cheshire to Lancashire and the bits in between. Although our networking events are all local we do welcome some great contacts into our WhatsApp group because their local area doesn’t have that support we offer.

I started the Safety Social for a few reasons really, to make this an easy read, I’ll bullet point:

  • The North West seems to be left out of the good stuff. The risk industry can be very London ‘Big City’ based. The North West has so much going on right now and the future plans are really exciting and are creating a metropolis for us risk professionals.
  • Since 2020 in person events seemed to have dropped dramatically, as convenient as Teams, Zoom and other online platforms are, we have learned that real life human interaction really matters for wellbeing and community building.
  • Membership fees matter. It is no secret that membership fees and the return on investment has caused some controversy over recent years. I’ll leave that one there.
  • We do good! It’s all about giving back, raising awareness of health and safety and supporting small local charities.
  • Being a safety professional, especially if you are the only one in your business, can often be a lonely place. Having a group of people to lean on really does make all the difference.

The long and short of it is that The Safety Social is a networking and support group that provides education along the way.

Employers should be encouraging their risk management professionals to join us at our events and in our WhatsApp communities. Having that network to talk to could mean you retain some amazing talent within the business by ‘outsourcing’ the support network they need. It can lead to better business for you, preferred rates from our network and more!

What it isn’t

The Safety Social is not a business networking group that provides leads. Over the past 12 months the socials have provided amazing networking space for people to simply get to know each other and have a place to belong.

In fact, we actively discourage hard sales because our experiences have shown us that when people get involved for genuine reasons, to help and support others, the relationship is built, and business transactions are usually a happy side effect often leading to long term relationships. Hard sales are rather off-putting and we all know the saying ‘people buy people not products’.

So, now you know what we are and aren’t about, does The Safety Social sound like something for you?

The Future

We are going to continue doing what we are good at – connecting people and doing good. It’s that simple!

We are looking for people and companies to work with us to provide more for our network so if you are interested please reach out and we can have a chat about how you can help.
