uvex will demonstrate how its new pheos nxt safety spectacles take comfort and performance to new heights at The Health & Safety Event at the NEC (Birmingham, 30 April-2 May 2024).
Building on the success of the original uvex pheos glasses, they introduce uvex aero non-slip 3D side arm components to the design to prevent annoying slipping and drops. The soft, malleable side arms utilise twist technology to adapt ergonomically to any head shape, ensuring a secure, comfortable fit ideal for long periods of use. The uvex pheos nxt glasses are also 10% lighter than the original design for a featherweight feel.
The glasses have a large, rimless panoramic lens with uvex supravision lens coating technology. This provides a permanent anti-fog coating on the inside and a durable scratch- and chemical-resistant coating on the outside for distortion-free field of vision. In addition, the optical class 1 lens provides consistent clarity across the entire lens.
uvex pheos nxt glasses are available at a list price of £6.69 and are suitable for applications including turning and milling, sawing, manufacturing and assembly, drilling and hammering, metal and wood cutting, construction work and manual handling.
The uvex pheos nxt is made in uvex’s own production facilities in Fürth, Germany. This allows the company to utilise their in-house expertise ensuring complete ownership of the entire value chain, from the first design sketch, to the application of secret coating recipe developed by their own chemists, to the finished packed product leaving the premises. This allows the company to control, measure, improve and calculate the CO2 emissions for the product. As a result, the uvex pheos nxt planet has a carbon footprint of 0.11 kg CO₂ eq a saving of -29% compared to the standard pheos nxt.
Visitors to the uvex stand (4/F20) will also be able to preview the sustainability-focused uvex pheos nxt planet glasses, which will soon be available at only 20p more than uvex pheos nxt. The environmental benefits include side arms created from partially recycled materials as well as lenses made from 100% mass-balanced polycarbonate.
Commenting on the launch of the uvex pheos nxt uvex Marketing Manager, Clair Weston says: “uvex pheos nxt is an exceptional all-rounder, offering superior comfort and style along with optimal protection. The innovative side arms deliver next-level grip, with special anti-slip ridges and a revolutionary flexible twist to ensure a snug fit without pressure. Combined with their anti-fog coating and distortion-free field of vision, uvex pheos nxt glasses allow for longer wear without discomfort or distraction.”
nxt Level Protection
Like all uvex safety spectacles, the pheos nxt includes uvex UV400 technology for 100% protection against harmful UV radiation up to 400nm.
The EN166/170 standard specifies that safety eyewear should provide UV protection up to 380nm, but the World Health Organization recommends up to 400nm covering UVB and UVA rays. Approximately 40% of solar UV radiation that reaches the earth lies between 380nm and 400nm. The extra 20nm offered by uvex UV400 therefore plays an important role in protecting the eyes from the risk of long-term damage such as corneal injury, cataracts and loss of sight.
uvex UV400 also reduces high energy visible light (HEV) – commonly known as blue light – by 15%. Blue light causes strain on the retina and can cause headaches, blurry vision and poor concentration as well as increasing the risk of age-related macular degeneration.
The addition of the uvex CBR23 lens tint adds greater blue light protection and enables high-contrast vision. The standard pheos nxt glasses feature the new CBR23 tint which is ideal for outdoor workers providing up to 95% blue light protection.
